I’ve been a big fan of couture designer Bowie Wong’s creations ever since I had the pleasure of meeting him last year at MBSFW 2012 in Sydney when he asked Kevin Murphy to be the hair director for his runway show. His personality is very charming and delightful, and extremely funny and exudes a friendly energy that when you meet him you can’t help but be totally charmed by him. His couture I can best describe as beautiful works of art.
This year developer Mirvac commissioned Bowie Wong to create a $30,000 garment to encapsulate their Array project, a $220 million building in Melbourne’s Docklands.
“When creating the inspired gown, I wanted to capture the building’s form, sense of movement and the way the water reflects the silver and blue hues of the sky.” Bowie Wong in an interview with Australian Financial Review 1st March 2013
The dress which took eight months to create, made with hand stitched Swarovski crystal and weighed 8 kilograms, was unveiled at Array’s “Black Label” launch.
Wade Blackford, STYLE.MASTER for KEVIN.MURPHY created the beautiful hairstyle that complemented the stunning gown. The look was a modern take on a french roll, which was swept back into a beautiful shape.
“I was thrilled to be a part of this project and I had to create a look that reflected the elegance of the whole project.” Wade Blackford
If you are wondering how Wade created the look here’s how he did it…
“I smoothed the hair out with a round brush and KEVIN.MURPHY ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY then then stitched some padding low at the nape and built the style section by section back brushing each layer applying SESSION.SPRAY and tucking the ends into the padding and finishing with a layer of TEXTURE.MASTER.” Wade
