Kevin Murphy and his team of session stylists styled the hair for the new Qantas uniform collection launch event, held at Sydney’s Carriageworks on April 29, 2016.

Crafted by Australian Fashion Designer Martin Grant, the modern uniform for Qantas’ domestic, regional and international pilots was inspired by classic military and naval-style pilot garb. The existing uniforms had not been redesigned since 2003, and it also was the first time a uniform has been designed for female pilots.

The KEVIN.MURPHY team styled hair for over 50 models, including Qantas pilots, cabin crew, and the Stenmark twins who opened the show dressed in the new uniform. Model Jesinta Campbell also walked in the historic show, and the crew got schooled on the runway by none other than Miss J. Alexander.

Kevin Murphy, SESSION.MASTER James Nicholson, and their team of KM session stylists created a groomed look with natural lustre for the runway show using the steps below.

FEMALE PILOTS

Step one: Apply STAYING.ALIVE and ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY and blow dry in with a rolling brush.
Step two: Take a section from ear to ear in front of the crown and secure the back section in a low ponytail into the nape with an elastic.
Step three: Take a deep side part in the top section and smooth back over the top, tucking behind the ears, and secure at the nape and add it to the first ponytail.
Step four: Take a small piece of hair from the ponytail and sleek it with SESSION.SPRAY. Wrap it over the hair tie.
Step five: Finish with a light spray of SESSION.SPRAY onto a comb and lightly groom the top layer.

Step three: Take a deep side part in the top section and smooth back over the top, tucking behind the ears, and secure at the nape and add it to the first ponytail.
Step four: Split pony tail in two sections and lightly spray with SESSION.SPRAY.
Step five: Tie them in a knot and then tie in a knot again to create a twisted chignon to keep it sleek and chic.

MALE PILOTS & CABIN CREW

To create a well-groomed look, kept tight around the ears with a natural looking finish – use STAYING.ALIVE, ANTI.GRAVITY and EASY.RIDER. For pilots with more length, apply UN.DRESSED and work it through the hair.
